The whole world, it seems, has felt some degree of alarm about what has happened in America. But this intuitive sense of danger comes with a hint of impotence because it’s not easy to say exactly what is going on there, and where it will go next. Without this diagnostic kind of understanding, we can’t get to work figuring out what we should be doing about it. That’s why I thought it would be useful to put down a few thoughts here to help straighten out my own thinking … and maybe yours too.
